1. General Information
The Johannes Brahms Competition Pörtschach am Wörthersee 2026 and following editions is an international music competition and is generally open to participants of all nationalities.
There are no age restrictions.
However, candidates are expected to demonstrate a very high artistic standard and an internationally competitive instrumental or vocal level.
Proof of artistic qualification must already be provided at the time of registration. If a performance does not meet the artistic or practical performance standards required for the competition, the jury may interrupt the performance at any time.
2. Jury Evaluation
The jury evaluation takes place publicly immediately after each performance.
The jurors evaluate using score cards ranging from 4.0 to 6.0.
Two separate evaluations are given:
a technical / performance evaluation
- an evaluation of artistic expression and stage presence
- The competition secretariat keeps the official written record.
In case of discrepancies, the written record of the secretariat shall prevail.
3. Announcement of Results
The results are announced publicly after each competition round.
4. Jury Feedback
Candidates who do not advance to the next round may request feedback from the jury.
5. Time Limits
If the maximum performance duration is exceeded, the performance may be interrupted by the jury or the competition management.
6. Dress Code
Appropriate concert attire is required.
7. Performance of the Works
As a general rule, all submitted works must be performed in full.
8. Late Arrival
Candidates arriving late may be excluded from participation.
9. Changes of Schedule
The competition management reserves the right to modify performance schedules and organizational procedures if necessary.
10. External Circumstances
External circumstances such as audience noise, technical disturbances or other influences are considered part of the general risk borne by the candidates.
11. Decisions of the Jury
The decisions of the jury are final and not subject to appeal.
12. Order of Performances
The order of performances will be newly drawn for each competition round.
13. Award Ceremony
Prizes may only be accepted personally during the final concert including the audience prize ceremony.
14. Rights and Recordings
Candidates are not entitled to any remuneration of any kind during their participation in the competition. This applies in particular to photo, audio, radio, television, streaming and other recordings or documentation.
By participating in the competition, candidates agree to the free and unrestricted use of such recordings in connection with the competition.
15. Language Clause
In case of doubt or interpretation differences, the German version of the regulations shall be legally binding.
